Scott Atherton has announced a series of changes to the ALMS in 2010. The crux of the announcement is
- P1 and P2 will be combined into one class - LMPChallenge (LMPC) will be introduced. These will be spec cars from Oreca that will be leased - GT2 will remain and GTChallenge (GTC) will grow The full release I am supportive of these measure - particularly the LMP rules - this will still allow innovation (although I don't know what the final rules and restrictions will be) while adding a cost effective class to the Series in the Prototype area. I do hope they can get 10 cars here - in a reasonable environment they could expect that. The LMPC cars are tried and tested and are good looking cars. They will also sound good with a stonking great Chevy in the back of them The GT classes is pretty much what we expected. I hope they can expand the GTC class to more types of cars but I don't know what way they will go as the GT3 class has now moved past the times of Carrera Cup cars. I hoped to see something on format and calendar for next year - there had been rumours of moving to a 6 round enduro calendar - something I would have supported but nothing on that was mentioned - so we could be looking at similar calendar for next year. I welcome this announcement and hope it works, but I doubt we will really know its effectiveness till about round 4 next year...

In the interview during the race on SPEED TV, Scott Atherton mentioned ten races.
I think the LMPC cars will have Ford engines (Panoz runs Fords, and Elan Motorsports will be building the cars under contract for Courage/Oreca, i hear.) Either way, wee are looking at big American V8s thumping out the power. |

I heard that too - I also saw this - http://www.badboyvettes.com/429 so it will be interesting to see which one is true - either way, a Ford or Chev engine should give us a good sound...
Also hearing under $1m per car per season...which ain't half bad...

This is good news. I think the GT2 will grow also. Its going to be very competative. Great race at Road America.

I'm very optimistic about the 2010 season!!
I would've like them to to continue with weekend combination with series such as Indy Car, but we all know where that series may be going.

I saw up close @ Road Atlanta the Courage/Corvette engine Prototype Challenge
How it sounds/runs is yet to be determined. Hearing it will have aboot 500HP and hopefully be a tick faster than the GT cars

Oh it will definitely be faster than the GT cars. It's basically a less aero developed version of the Acura P2 car with almost as much power.
