Default MurphytheBear ALMS Rumors

Some ALMS Rumors
From: http://murphythebear.com/blog/index....eamy/#more-392

“In some quarters it’s believed the series has to announce a major manufacturer for a committed full time 2010 program no later than at Petit Le Mans in September. It can be the return of a former (Audi or Porsche) or new (Toyota) big-time player. It can’t be a back-door-badge-something program. What about the impressive growth of GT2? Won’t help, say the Bear’s sources. Neither will a Panoz LMP1 be enough, though some believe the motivation for the Don’s idea might be the need to provide some competition to keep Acura in the fold.”

There is a bunch of interesting ALMS stuff … de Ferran and Fernandez going to IRL if P1 doesn’t pick up?

Yeah - rumours are that Acura are getting sick of competing against themselves. I reckon HIghcroft and Patron will stick round maybe in a single Acura so Acura can get some ROI on that car...

Fernandez is apparatnly openly looking for funds to put Diaz in an Indycar, De Ferran could run 2 programs and has expressed the desire to do so...but the remainder of 2009 will be interesting times for the ALMS

Just been thinking after seeing an interview on Speed where Atherton said his job was to get Prototypes in ALMS and he was frustrated that so many were sitting there, not racing...

So how many eligible cars are just sitting round in the USA, waiting to race

Creation have a couple of cars in North Carolina (2)
Old Dyson Porsches (2)
Old Penske Porsches (3)
Van Der Steur Radical (1)
Eco Radical (1) - although it is probably in Europe
Mundil Pescarolo (1) although it will probably race later in the year
P2 Acuras from AGR, De Ferran and Highcroft (3)
Audi R15s or R10s - we really should have 2 of them (2)

So that is 15 off the top of my head...but obviously the situations around some of those cars means they won't be raced by their current owners...

Can anyone add or subtract from that list???
