Default 2010 Atlantic Championship Cancelled

Wow, some disturbing news... The Atlantic Championship 2010 season has been cancelled. It was stated this series will be on a hiatus until the global economic conditions improve.

Black armband time. A truly great series gets flushed down the tubes as both a victim of the great divide and the red-headed stepchild of the great reunification.

Don't see this one coming back ever. To bad, lots of fond memories of this series dating back to the '70s.

Yeah, you kind of saw the writing on the wall when all they could field were a dozen of the 016s and event the re-established C2 class (the 08s) brought little to fill the field.

I guess I just have to be happy to see John Edwards get a sportscar ride from Mazda for his championship prize and that Simona managed to make her way out of the series, but the rest of the kids and the team owners deserved a much better fate.

The real issue I have with this that with series gone and Formula BMW Americas swept under the rug some of the best junior cars on this side of the pond will be parked in garages while the open wheel ladder here consists of Formula Ford to Star Mazda to Indy Lights.

The Europeans are going to kick North American butt for another generation if this is all the equipment they have to work with to learn their craft.

Officially a one season hold.

I wonder where the remaining drivers will be moving for 2010? Star Mazda is pretty wild and I'm not sure if the Atlantic drivers will want to make that move. Indy Lights seems a natural step?

Darn, I had one or two of the races on my tentative schedule for this year.
