Default IndyCar Loses Multiple Fuel Settings

Well, starting this year, the IndyCar Series announced that they are removing the four position fuel mixture switch from the cars. I dont like this. I think they should keep it myself. So now fuel strategy will have to be done other ways like controlling the throttle.

The teams will still have the push to pass system and the new reverse gear so Im glad they kept the one and added the other feature. They also added a new "floating back" headrest to use. This is supposed to reduce the head and neck injuries by helping with the G forces. The kevlar skin of the headrest is attached to the front of the foam and the sides "float", so the driver only feels foam.

why would you be against something that tilts the 'racing' back into the drivers

P2P picked up an extra boost, so now it kicks in as both an accelerant and a fuel gobbler. Should make life interesting for the guys behind the wall when they start trying to run their numbers on race days.

Wonder how may races this season will involve a splash and dash at the end since this makes fuel economy runs much tougher to accomplish.

Could make the races a lot more fun for the fans.

Love the move. Fuel settings should not be used in a spec series. Full throttle or nothing...

Very dissapointed. This is a series that needs to diversify from NASCAR via technology. Having fuel switches on the steering wheel is unique and 'cool' to a lot of race fans I've introduced to open wheel racing. Now the cars are simpler and less interesting.

Drivers can still save fuel on top of the switches. There's still going to be people going slow and saving fuel on road courses. It doesn't make it 'full throttle or nothing', it just gives us less to talk about. Terrible idea on the IRL's part. This is the best idea they can come up with to improve the series? Great job guys.

Yeah, I am not such a fan. I really like the tactical battle that you could get from fuel saving. I remember how good Moreno and Fernandez were at it 10 years ago and wondering where they would end up. But I guess, in the scheme of what is wrong with Indycar Racing right now, it barely rates a mention.
